Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas

This Saturday is Valentine’s Day, which is traditionally a day spent with your partner. However, there are plenty of other great ways to spend it — with friends, on a first date, curled up reading a good book, at a party… My goal today is to bring you looks suitable for any of these situations.

My first look is for attending a party with friends — I focused it around a short lacy dress and bright red accents. The second look is meant as something you could wear to a fancy dinner with someone you’ve been going out with a while — a stunning long dress and classic makeup. Next up, an outfit for a stroll through the woods or hanging out in the park; this outfit is a basic sweater and jeans, with red-tinted lip balm as the makeup focal point. My final outfit is for a more casual dinner with your date (this is closest to my own Valentine’s Day plans!).

Regardless of what your Valentine’s Day looks like, you can never go wrong with a great scent. From romping through a field to going ice skating to a fancy dinner, perfume is something that is appropriate for every situation. My current favorite, and one especially suited for Valentine’s Day, is Chloé Love Story. Another current floral and feminine favorite is Yves Rocher Comme Une Evidence.

What are your plans for Valentine’s Day?

#LOTD: New Year’s Eve

While this is probably not what I’m actually going to wear on New Year’s Eve, since I plan on staying at home listening to jazz and sipping champagne with family, I think it would be a suitable look for another activity! I could see myself wearing this makeup to either a glamorous holiday party or for a night of dancing at a club.

#LOTD: Christmas Day

Christmas at my house is all about immediate family, good food, and good cheer. There are only 6 of us total at my house over the holidays, and so no real need to dress up more than usual. I decided to go very simple with my look.

On my eyes, I used Coastal Scents hot pots in Mai Tai and Chocolate Berry, on the lid and in the crease respectively. For face makeup, I just brushed my No. 7 Illuminator over my cheekbones. On my lips I swiped Make Up For Ever lipstick in N9 Copper Rose.

My top is a Patagonia Merino sweater that I received for Christmas a few years ago. I paired it with jeans and cozy socks, since I didn’t need to leave the house. For earrings, I wore sparkly rhinestone studs.

The necklace is one that I received as a present. It’s from a market in France. My bracelet was also a present, and I adore it! I’m not sure where it’s from, though.

I wish you all happy holidays!

#LOTD: Fresh-Faced Weekend

Welcome to the first #LOTD, or Look Of The Day post! I don’t imagine that I will be doing these too frequently, maybe just once a week, because the vast majority of the time I wear very similar makeup and I feel like that would be really repetitive!

Today’s look is very fresh-faced and natural. To me, it’s perfect for a lazy Sunday when all I want to do is go to a long brunch with a friend, do some grocery shopping, and then sit on the porch talking or reading in the sunshine (yes, that is what I did today).

Princess Anna Makeup Tutorial

For Halloween this year, I went as Princess Anna from Frozen. I love Frozen, and think there are a lot of similarities between Anna and me (although part of the reason I chose Anna is because I was able to cobble together her outfit from things already in my wardrobe!).

I’d like to share with you the makeup I did for this costume. I consulted a couple of YouTube videos to develop this, notably tutorials by Alex Poletti and dope2111.

I know it’s after Halloween, but I hope that this look is simple and everyday enough that you could wear it any day and feel like you’re secretly channeling Anna. My main goal was to create something that reflected Anna but that I would still feel comfortable wearing. Therefore, I didn’t add any makeup that I would never wear as myself. This means that, if you normally wear foundation or fake eyelashes, you should feel free to include those into this look and make it your own!
