Birchbox Black Friday Haul

I love Birchbox. I love receiving my box every month, I love window-shopping in their store, and I love occasionally buying myself something. This month was one of those “buying something” times.

Shipping was a little slow, but only by the high standards I’ve come to expect from Birchbox — it took 2 days to be shipped, and another 3 to arrive at my door. I was really surprised by how light the box was, especially considering its size, until I opened it….and realized how much bubble wrap had been used to package my products!

January 2016 Birchbox Sample Choice Comparison

Birchbox’s sample choice has become a monthly staple now; you can find a description of the program here. This month there are 3 samples to choose from plus an awesome curated box filled with Korean beauty samples. Let’s dive in to this photo-heavy post!

The Eyeko Fat Liquid Eyeliner was supposed to appear in everyone’s boxes this June, but a shipping problem prevented the samples from arriving in time. They promised that the liners would appear in a future box, and here they are! I’m actually more pleased about the way they’re doing it this time around, with the Eyeko liner as a sample choice instead of a definite sample, since there are plenty of people who probably don’t particularly want another eyeliner, but those who are excited to receive it can opt for that choice.

Memebox Order: My Introduction to K-Beauty

I already expressed my excitement about this order once, but now that it’s arrived I have to express it all over again!

P1480439 P1480440 P1480441

I was very impressed with the speed of delivery — it shipped the same day that I placed it, and arrived 4 business days later. The box was very compact, and stuffed with pink confetti. It was so cheerful! The color also matched perfectly with many of the items I ordered, but that was probably a coincidence.

Petit Fée | Black Pearl & Gold Hydrogel Eye Patch | $20 $15

I’ve been experiencing ongoing dark circles under my eyes a lot this semester due to stress and lack of sleep, and I was really hoping this would help heal them. This tub comes with 60 patches, so that’s enough for 30 applications — wow! The downside is that I just noticed that they have an expiration date only 2 months from opening, so I guess I just need to use them every other day? I tried them for the first time on Saturday and have been impressed so far; I’ll report back with a review soon.

nooni | Snowflake Cleanser | $16 $13

I’ve been curious about Korean cleansers for a while. I originally wanted to try the Banila Clean it Zero sherbet cleanser, but it was always more expensive than I wanted. When I saw this one, I knew I had to try it! It’s advertised as a cleanser that starts as a balm, then turns into an oil as you massage it in, and finally into a milk when you wash it away. This cleanser has no scent. A little goes a long way, and it works well. I’ve been really impressed with it so far!

September 2015 Birchbox Review

So, once again, I find myself behind. I still have my May, June, July, and August Birchbox reviews to write, but I figured I might as well post my more recent boxes in the meantime. Here I begin with a return to the warm, warm weather and idealistic views on schoolwork from September!

I’m back at school for the Fall semester, and among the many things I forgot to do while transitioning was change my Birchbox mailing address. So my September Birchbox was sent to my home address instead of my university address, and I had to wait all month until my parents visited to get it. Which ordinarily wouldn’t have bothered me too much, except I peeked at my box online and was beyond excited to be receiving the Caffeine Eye Cream from 100% Pure!

September’s theme was “Better Together”. September is Birchbox’s anniversary month, and so this theme seemed to fit the occasion.

Black Friday/Cyber Monday: Excitement Too Great To Contain (Part 2)

You can find Part 1 of this post here. I was just so excited about the online purchases I made on Black Friday and Cyber Monday that I just couldn’t wait until the packages actually got here to share them! In my first post, I talked about my awesome orders from Memebox, Birchbox, and Crabtree & Evelyn. This post covers Rite Aid, The Body Shop, and more.

Rite Aid

Rite Aid

Everything at Rite Aid was 30% off for Cyber Monday. I was first attracted to the Rite Aid sale because of the nail colors. I needed a new base cost, and I wanted a couple of new nail colors to cheer me up. I read a ton of reviews, and finally decided on the L’Oreal One Stop Base instead of some of the other brands of base coat that were available. The colors I picked up were a beautiful pink creme (Revlon Teak Rose), a shimmery duochrome (WNW Gray’s Anatomy), and a sparkling textured polish (L’Oreal Diamond in the Rough).

There was free shipping on orders $25+, so I shopped around for some items to up my total so I didn’t have to pay shipping. I bought some totally non-glamorous necessities like pantiliners and wetwipes, just because I would have gone to Rite Aid to buy them anyway and I might as well get them 30% off. But I also tossed in a Burt’s Bees Pomegranate lip balm duo, since it’s my favorite lip balm ever and I’m running low, and WNW Moisturizing Balm Stain in Rico Mauve, because it was cheap and I thought the color looked nice from online swatches. Finally, I added the Freeman Charcoal & Black Sugar Mask because I was still just under the minimum amount for free shipping and I have been wanting to try this mask for a while.

Black Friday/Cyber Monday: Excitement Too Great To Contain (Part 1)

Update: Apparently this is my 100th post on this blog! It’s not a very ceremonious post, but it is one which I was super excited while writing (as you can probably tell from reading it). Which makes me happy!

So, I did a decent amount of shopping last weekend. Not a huge amount, at least not compared to what I’ve seen some beauty bloggers post about, but what feels like a whole lot to me. You probably noticed that a lot of beauty products were on sale for this thing called Black Friday and this other thing called Cyber Monday — crazy, right? I always try to shop during sales because I love getting deals on things, and last weekend was no different. I definitely stocked myself up for a while!

I went into my shopping adventure with a definite plan. There were certain items I knew I wanted, and I did a lot of comparison shopping and whittling down of wishlists before ever ordering anything. I am so happy with what I ended up ordering, and I just couldn’t contain how excited I am about some of the products I’ll be receiving in the mail shortly, so I had to post about them before they even arrive.

Shopping Strategy

My wishlist was pretty short, and I definitely didn’t stick to it, but I do think it helped me figure out what to narrow my shopping cart down to. All of the products on my wishlist were things I had felt like I needed multiple times in the last month, and it provided a great jumping-off point.

  • A new cleanser (can be balm, oil, gel, or cream)
  • The solution to whiteheads
  • A good undereye concealer
  • More multi-dimensional eyeshadows that can be worn alone
  • Purple eyeliner that doesn’t drag at all
  • A nail polish base coat
  • A perfect MLBB lipstick color
  • Some restocks: TBS Nutriganics eye cream, TBS Nutriganics Drops of Youth concentration, Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre (a full-size purchase after sampling)

I had a list of 11 stores which had sales going on that I wanted to investigate: Memebox, Birchbox, Crabtree & Evelyn, Rite Aid, The Body Shop, Sephora, Ulta, Zoya, Freeman, e.l.f., and Target.

I’ve never purchased anything from Memebox before, and I’ve barely even dipped my toes into the waters of Korean beauty at all, but Beeju‘s posts have been making me very curious. Elisabeth posted an image preview of the Black Friday sale they were going to be having and I decided I had to take advantage of it. I spent a lot of time browsing their website, and I am so happy with what I ended up picking. They’re all items I’m super excited about — I think this is the package I’m most excited to receive!
